Solstice Medical Receives Patent for

Gamma Sterilizable RFID Tag

Fort Wayne, IN - Solstice Medical, LLC, a leading provider of advanced inventory management systems for the medical industry was granted U.S. Patent No. 7,916,033 B2 on March 29, 2011 for a small gamma-shielded shorted patch RFID tag.  Traditionally, high dosage gamma sterilization effectively disables the non-volatile memory (NVM) resident within an RFID tag.  The invention provides the ability for the RFID tag's NVM to withstand gamma sterilization, while the form factor remains small enough to be attached to medical devices prior to gamma sterilization.

Since 2005, Solstice has led the industry with other innovations, such as the market's first autoclavable, medical grade RFID tag for instruments and cases. Solstice has 9 other patents pending for innovations surrounding its solutions for the healthcare industry.
